First swissFronteers gathering

The first swissFronteers gathering was a full success. Over 40 attendees enjoyed the 5 talks about frontend mobile development. We hope you enjoyed the event as much as we did. Stay tuned for the next gathering!

The talks will be published around next week. Keep following the #swissfg hashtag.

About us

The swissFronteers group was founded 2010 by Angelo Dini and Martin Bommeli. Our intention was to create a fast growing connection between Fronteers (frontend developers) living or working in Switzerland. If you would like to join us, use the form below to submit your membership request. Membership is free and requires no responsibilities.

There is no clear definition about what area of expertise a Fronteer inherits. To clear things up, we split the areas in different categories using HTML5 as an inspiration:

Markup: A Fronteer is an engineer.
There are different markup languages like HTML, XHTML, XSLT, XML and many more. A Fronteer must not need to know all of these. Although it is necessary to know how the different technologies work and integrate with each other. The W3C guides us there with its wisdom and standards.

Stylesheets: A Fronteer is a designer.
We bring form and color to our work through either CSS or XSL. Depending on the desired platform, a Fronteer needs to know the different behaviors between browsers and equivalents.

JavaScript: A Fronteer is a programmer.
Not only is JavaScript the most popular programming language available, it is an important tool for rich user experiences and applications. Knowing frameworks like jQuery, Mootools, Prototype enables us to write fast and efficient code to fulfill these requirements.

Multimedia: A Fronteer is hip.
Integrating videos, audios and applications either through applets or plugins like Adobe® Flash®, can improve the user experience and might help to enhance the product. We know the basic knowledge and integration of these technologies.

Platforms: A Fronteer is insightful.
Supporting different devices and browsers is essential. Testing through these different platforms requires a high understanding of how browser engines or device software is working. We test and ensure that our products work on various platforms as defined.

Accessibility: A Fronteer is open-minded.
We know how to build accessible products using the WAI/ARIA standards defined by the W3C. Creating a better experience for challenged people all around the world.

More: A Fronteer is more...
Fronteers have a good eye for layout and design. We know how to use tools like Photoshop, Flash and Fireworks. But there is still more than meets the eye. Fronteers always scout for interesting developments, new approaches and connections. We stay updated and keep a close eye into the future.
